Dade Heritage Trust Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Dade Heritage Trust (DHT) presents meaningful and engaging community programming and initiatives to further our mission including the preservation of naturally occurring affordable housing in Little Havana where we are preserving historic buildings and preserving affordability; Historic Places, Green Spaces - a Florida curriculum standards-based K-12 educational program introducing students and educators to significant historic venues in City and County parks and open spaces - and we have adjusted to the pandemic by offering the entire program virtually and live with our educators via ZOOM. DHT is housed in the historic 1905 office and surgery of Dr. James M. Jackson, Miami's first DHT physician and our gallery spaces in the charming former waiting rooms include Miami Medicine and Biscayne Bay: Our Water, Our World. DHT performs neighborhood surveys of Miami's diverse urban areas including the history, architecture, environment and culture of the area to inform residents to learn about where they live, DHT liaisons with various departments in the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County including Parks to assist in the restoration and interpretation of historic structures within parks. DHT also has a new initiative to ensure the preservation of Miami's urban tree canopy, The Canopy Coalition.
DHT is also preserving naturally occurring affordable housing in historic apartment buildings in urban Miami. We have a robust K-12 educational program called Historic Places, Green Spaces.
DHT presents Baking in Historic Places, urban Miami bike tours and walking tours to educate and inform residents and visitors about Miami's diverse neighborhoods and architecture. We are also a designated Bike Friendly Business by the American League of Bicyclists, a Free Little Library site and a partner in Fairchild Gardens Connect to Protect Program due to our native plant garden which attracts birds, bees and butterflies in the middle of Brickell!
