Hello Friend!

We're on a mission to enhance Coconut Grove - by revitalizing the historic Commodore Trail that runs through our community.  We all want a safe and beautiful trail to enjoy with friends and family, get our daily exercise, and reach our favorite places around town.

The Friends of the Commodore Trail are on it! We’re guiding a master plan for Trail improvements which is almost ready. Soon it will be time to start construction phases, so now we’re rolling up our sleeves and prioritizing the work to come.

What’s first?  A Safe Route to Schools.

The Commodore Trail connects Grove families to 11 schools.  This first wave of Trail upgrades will allow parents to feel confident in encouraging children to use the Trail to ride and walk to and from schools along Main Highway. Picture kids gaining that little bit of confidence and independence. (And parents not having to sit in long car drop-off lines!) Both priceless.

St. Stephen’s, Coconut Grove Elementary, Ransom-Everglades’ Upper School, Carrollton’s two campuses, Plymouth Congregational Preschool, The Vanguard School, Miami Jewish Montessori, and St. Hugh Catholic School will be along the route of this first phase.  Immaculata-La Salle High School and Ransom-Everglades Middle School will follow ASAP (and MCA Academy too!).  Links to Frances S. Tucker Elementary and GC Carver Elementary are in our vision too.

Your donations will help make this happen! By supporting our continued advocacy we will get the best designs, the most attention, and prioritized action from local governments.

This kind of action is what Friends are for!

Mission

Emphasizing safety, beauty and functionality, Friends of the Commodore Trail advocate for improvement and upkeep of the Trail to to ensure pedestrians, cyclists and motorists can enjoy all this historic route has to offer. We organize events, strengthen community and push governments to act.

• As a Crown Jewel of Miami-Dade, the Trail links the people, histories and futures of the Grove's generations.

• As an alternative transportation corridor, the Trail will ultimately provide a safe route for the thousands of residents, visitors, commuters and students that use it each day.

• As an environmental corridor, the Trail nurtures a tree canopy that serves wildlife, birds and people, while buffering the waters of Biscayne Bay from land-side pollutants.

• As a lifestyle destination, the Trail's visitors grow the economy and health of all Miami.

Friends of the Commodore Trail (FCT) is the driving force behind this evolution. Its members organize and use their powers of influence to make it happen.
