Welcome to Miami's Opportunity Generator. This is where raw talent meets hard work, where it's cool to be smart. Where a child's zip code does not determine where they are going. Each year, more than 250 rising 5th-grade students are admitted through a competitive application process as the incoming class, joining a cadre of over 1700 Breakthrough Scholars in 5th through 12th grade. Full of potential, ideas, and aspirations, our Scholars commit to Breakthrough Miami's 8-year tuition-free academic enrichment and leadership development program, and we commit to them. Scholars bring work ethic, curiosity, and ambition. And they are met with mentorship, rigor, high expectations, peer networks, and new experiences. 

Our signature students-teaching-students model positions older students as teachers, mentors and roles models. One of our regions most significant workforce development partners, Breakthrough recruits and supports more than 250 older students (15-24-year-olds) to serve in a nationally-ranked paid summer Teaching Fellowship and Assistantships, joined by 400+ student Volunteers, all ready to learn, lead, mentor, coach, stretch, and grow. Together, Scholars, Fellows, and Volunteers spend summers and school year Saturdays dedicated to learning, discovering, developing, and pushing themselves to excel, achieve, and make an impact.

A gift to Breakthrough is an investment in the future. We know that every Breakthrough Scholar who commits to our 8-year academic and social enrichment program will graduate high school on time and will enroll, persist, and complete college at higher rates than their peers, regardless of socioeconomic status.

Recognized as Best Summer Learning Program in the Country by National Summer Learning Association (2018), Breakthrough Miami was honored as 2023 Program of the Year by The Children’s Trust and, 2023 Volunteer Florida AmeriCorps Program of the Year.
