"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." -Anne Frank
Beth Or's sacred gatherings lead us to act: to focus on achieving systemic change and promoting fairness, justice and democracy in Miami-Dade County and beyond.
We support and participate in numerous community service activities, donating funds and needed items to organizations such as Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, the Miami Power House Church, Jewish Adoption and Family Care (JAFCO), Feed My Sheep, and Lotus House (to name just a few).
We thoughtfully re-imagine our Shabbat and holiday celebrations so they are meaningful, innovative and interactive often taking place in our lovely, meditation garden.
We study sacred Jewish texts, also using perspectives of contemporary scholars with current issues. Our women's Red Tent reading group rekindles spirits by sharing new perspectives on books, issues and life.
Beth Or's "Be Mitzvah" program reinvents the Bar/Bat mitzvah, providing students with tools and experiences leading to a lifetime of learning. In addition to Hebrew and prayers, our year-long program focuses on mitzvot, middot (character traits/values) and social justice. Temple membership is not required for young people to participate in this program.
Beth Or's Gallery of light uses the visual arts to explore creativity and spiritually energize the community with workshops, spiritual discussions and openings that showcase the work of Southern Artists.
