A Safe Haven for Newborns

What is more important than saving the lives of precious newborns?

The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation, 501(c)3 - A Safe Haven for Newborns, was created in 2001 in response to the tragedy of newborn abandonment in Florida. The Foundation’s mission is to come to the aid of newborns and save them from the ultimate in infant abuse — abandonment. The Foundation supports distressed pregnant girls and women from all walks of life in their moment of crisis as they make decisions that are in the best interest of their baby and themselves.

Monies raised during the telethon will enable A Safe Haven for Newborns to continue its life-saving mission of providing support and guidance to the expectant mother in crisis before giving birth. Through Florida's statewide network of referral programs, the Foundation provides assistance and guidance; such as referrals to counseling agencies, parenting, health-related issues, shelter, adoption, or confidentially placing the newborn in a safe haven location. Safe Haven for Newborns also offers a 24/7 multilingual confidential helpline to assist the expectant mothers. 

We do not charge for any of our services and everyone is helped.

The lifeline of our organization is our 24/7 statewide, multilingual referral help line to assist pregnant girls/women in crisis. We provide quick, confidential, one-on-one assistance by accessing our extensive referral database. We assist them as they make their decision in the best interest of their baby and themselves, whether with counseling, parenting, health related issues, adoption, or confidentially placing their newborn with a "Safe Haven".  All calls are confidential and everyone is helped. 

To date, over 385 newborns have been given a chance at life, and the opportunity to be all they can be. They have all been adopted with their forever families. 

More than 6000 women have been assisted in their time of need. We help with providing temporary motel stays, shelter and maternity homes, help for abuse issues, transportation services, referrals for counseling, cell phone service, providing baby items, taking them to medical appointments, connection to Medicaid and other government programs.   All services are offered at no cost.  

We have developed outreach, awareness and education campaigns, one of them is for the at-risk groups, a community service mobile app to educate high school & college students about this life saving program while they earn their required hours.
