The Area Stage Company has weathered the storm brought on by COVID-19 with the support of the tight-knit community it has cultivated over the years and various institutional partners, including the Miami Foundation. In response to the pandemic, ASC immediately switched their entire Conservatory program, private and group classes, to an all-virtual model within a week of the shutdown. ASC subsequently offered a successful summer camp, both in-person with social distancing and safety regulations in place and virtually, and put into motion a model that has continued through the Fall. Currently, the Conservatory students are in rehearsals for an all-virtual musical theatre production (a company first), while the professional company rehearses for the release of a production of an original musical presented in an innovative format- a series of podcast episodes. ASC will soon begin construction of an outdoor theatre at its home in Sunset Place. ASC hopes to continue to present high quality professional and youth theatre productions to the Miami community and the funds raised this Give Miami Day will go towards supporting the construction of this brand new, outdoor performance space.
