The Alhambra Orchestra provides exciting live performances of orchestral masterpieces to over 6,000 people annually in Miami-Dade County, in a normal year. Nearly all the performances are FREE, convenient and accessible to all. We offer symphony concerts, children's programming, chamber music, musical theatre, opera, and outreach visits to schools, hospitals and community centers, and we also sponsor a concerto competition to showcase talented young local performers. This will be the 20th year for our competition, and also the 20th year for our unique weekend chamber music workshop for local student and amateur musicians, taught by Frost School of Music faculty. Our skilled musicians include businesspeople, professionals in various disciplines, music teachers, graduate students, and retirees, most of whom volunteer their time and talent. Our inspiring Artistic Director, Dr. Daniel Andai, has molded the orchestra into an excellent ensemble that often collaborates with top local soloists. We particularly try to reach seniors, families with young children, and other residents who are usually not able to attend "headline" classical music events in expensive downtown venues; they need and want to hear great music in their own neighborhoods. We perform at local universities, Miami-Dade County Auditorium, Pinecrest Gardens, the Moss Center, Coral Gables, and elsewhere around the county, and we send small ensembles to schools, hospitals and community centers. This will be our 34th season. We plan to start with a lively Hispanic Heritage concert in September and our beloved Spooky Symphony in October, both in Miami-Dade County Auditorium; followed by "South Florida's Got Talent" at FIU in January featuring our young concerto competition winners. In February, we'll have a unique chamber music concert in Coral Gables in featuring music of Italy throughout the centuries.  In April, inspired by the solar eclipse, we'll present an outer space celebration for the whole family, with captivating projected images supplied by the Frost Science Museum.  Our spectacular all-American season grand finale will be at FIU in early June.  We'll do as many outreach visits as we can. There are alternate plans to do these programs virtually if necessary; we won't go silent during a health crisis , but will continue to serve our community.

Mission

The mission of The Alhambra Orchestra is to promote the study and performance of classical music in Miami-Dade County, for both children and adults of all ages, and to provide no-barriers access to live classical performances. Some of the ways it may carry out this mission include presentation of free or low-cost symphonic concerts which are readily accessible to seniors, families with young children, and other groups who, it is believed, generally do not attend concerts in major venues; school visits; a concerto competition for South Florida youth; a chamber music workshop for musicians of all ages; various chamber group performances; and collaborations with other community organizations.
