The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network. The main programs Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter focuses on are:

BLUE WATER TASK FORCE
At Surfrider we believe that everyone should have access to clean water to surf, swim and play in. The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) is Surfrider's volunteer-run, water testing, education and advocacy program. We currently test 24 sites along Miami Beach, Biscayne Bay and Key Biscayne and alert citizens and officials in their communities about water quality problems. Raising public awareness of these incidents calls attention to the problem and forces accountability with our elected officials. The program measures enterococcus bacteria levels at marine beaches as well as recreational public water access points, such as marinas and kayak launches and compares them to EPA-established standards to protect public health in recreational waters. Find out more about the program and sign up to receive weekly alerts.

SWIM EXPLORE ACT SURF
Surfrider understands that knowing how to swim is much more than an important life skill. the ability to swim, and feel comfortable in the water, opens up an amazing world of opportunities for education, leisure, sport, employment, and for advocacy. The SEAS program was launched in Miami in October 2022 and serves the community at large - children and their parents - as a pathway to advocacy and opportunity especially in communities that don't usually have access to swimming lessons and the ocean.

BUTTS OFF THE BEACH
Cigarette butts are made of plastic and NOT biodegradable. Discarded butts enter storm drains and then our waterways. Surfrider Miami works with the City of Miami Beach and private businesses to place ashcans at transition traffic points where smokers typically litter butts. This cigarette butt education and disposal program was implemented in Miami Beach through a City of Miami Beach grant, collecting over 500,000 cigarette butts so far!

MIAMI BEACH DUNE RESTORATIONS
Surfrider Miami plays an active role in restoring a critical and very fragile habitat in South Florida – our coastal dunes to protect our community from beach erosion and hurricane activity. Together with the City of Miami Beach we have been removing invasive scaevola and planting more resilient plants to safeguard the integrity of our dunes.

MIAMI BEACH COMPOSTING PROGRAM

Composting is a sustainable and economically sound practice that benefits the environment by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Together with the City of Miami Beach, Surfrider’s team is implementing a free backyard composting program for in single family homes in Miami Beach.

Mission

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network.

It has a proven model for success - a playbook and a team that transforms passion into protection. We continue to leverage that model within our network of chapters and clubs and are run solely by volunteers on a local level.

Your donation will help fund Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter's Programs as well as help our local volunteers to continue winning legislative campaigns to help us all turn the tide on plastic pollution, safeguarding clean water, protecting our shorelines from climate change, and making the beaches and ocean accessible for all!

Thank you for giving today!
