Many of our low-income students, in particular, have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. In order to adapt to the pandemic, SLA immediately shifted to digital operations. Over the summer we hosted community dialogues sessions on zoom featuring community leaders and industry experts to inspire youth all summer while increasing career readiness, from Monday-Thursday 2:30-5pm; and we had the honor of featuring The Miami Foundation's very own Superhero-Charisse Grant, several employees from Philo TV, Daniella Levine-Cava and Mayor Cindy Lerner, and others during our sessions.
In addition, our organization has been working with multiple partners in our community to bring these students food, necessary supplies, and internet access needed to study from home. We are continuing to work directly with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to provide after school services, online, to our students who represent multiple zip codes to meet their critical needs during this pandemic.
