OUR WORK IN MIAMI
Miami is an incredible city that cares deeply about its community. But 17% of Miami-Dade County's population is food insecure, which means approximately 470,000 residents struggle to put food on the table.
Through our program and partnership with Chef Michael Schwartz and The Genuine Hospitality Group since November 2021, Rethink Food has directed over $336,000 to small local food establishments throughout Miami and provided over 75,000 meals to local communities facing food insecurity.
Our work in Miami is an important example of how we are working to create a system where meals are sustainably and consistently going to communities and, ultimately, create a more sustainable and equitable food system.

OVERALL IMPACT
Since our creation in 2017, Rethink Food has:
● Provided over 9.3 million meals to vulnerable communities.
● Directed over $36 million to 125+ local restaurants and food establishments to prepare meals-75% of which are minority- or women-owned businesses.
● Partnered with 230+ community-based organizations to distribute meals.
● Used 1.5 million pounds of excess food, saving 3.75 million lbs of CO2 and 41.4 million gallons of fresh H20.
Mission
Founded in 2017, Rethink Food is a nonprofit organization with the mission to create a more sustainable and equitable food system.
Rethink Food has demonstrated a model that empowers restaurants and food establishments as a conduit for improving access to culturally-celebrated food in communities of greatest need. We currently partner with 65+ restaurants and a growing number of food excess partners to provide about 50,000 meals weekly across 6 cities (New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Nashville, Washington D.C, and Miami), 7 days a week.
