The pandemic brought new economic pressures, including massive displacement due to skyrocketing real estate prices and rents. Since the summer of 2020, Miami Homes For All has launched bold new programs to curb these pressures and ensure that our vulnerable residents can lead healthy, secure lives.

First, we organized the Greater Miami Housing Alliance (GMHA) - a coalition of public and private organizations taking action to address the affordable housing crisis, for which we serve as backbone agency. The GMHA has created and rallied behind a policy platform and budget priorities, and has achieved multiple policy and funding wins since. In particular, the GMHA and its members have focused on eviction prevention, shaping policy and conducting community-based outreach to ensure that our most vulnerable families have access to life-saving assistance and protection. We continue to build upon this work, and we expanded to address the pressing need to create new and preserve existing housing supply.

To that end, we created a new initiative: Connecting Capital and Community (3C). Partnering with other organizations, we have selected our first batch of eight deals led by Black developers and property owners. Our work to take deals from concept to construction will include providing technical assistance, capital, education, and peer support from a development advisory council. We believe we will be able to prove concepts for new financing products and create a new cadre of Black developers who can continue producing more affordable housing units.

Finally, MHFA has partnered with the members of the HOMY Collective: Helping Our Miami-Dade Youth to create a new hotline and system of service delivery targeted to youth experiencing homelessness. This new program, already proven by a pilot, will help hundreds of unaccompanied and parenting youth under 25 secure housing solutions created especially for them.

Mission

Since 1985, Miami Homes For All has worked to end and prevent homelessness in Miami-Dade County.

Miami Homes For All's vision is that everyone in Miami-Dade has a safe, stable place to call home. Yet today, over 250,000 of our households are at risk of losing their homes, because they earn less than $35,000 a year, and they are paying more rent than they can afford. To address this, we conduct research and make housing policy recommendations. We also facilitate productive conversations about solutions by convening cross-sector coalitions, including the Greater Miami Housing Alliance (GMHA) and The HOMY Collective: Helping Our Miami-Dade Youth (HOMY). With broad consensus on a clear agenda, MHFA is leading Miami toward a more secure, prosperous future.
