Miami Film Lab

Miami Film Lab supports local filmmakers as they work to make a living telling Miami stories. 

We provide professional development, fundraising support as well as artistic and practical mentorship to all local filmmakers. Our community is filled with unique artists telling unique stories that are best told on screen!

Our goals are to:

Raise Awareness - To elevate the profile of Miami filmmakers within the industry and with the public by making Miami films readily available on screen and online.

Provide Mentorship - To create opportunities for filmmakers to work with colleagues and industry professionals to elevate their work both practically and artistically.

Produce Films - To be our own gatekeepers and support the stories that reflect our community by raising the funds to produce films ourselves with budgets that allow for all crew members to make a living wage.

Our Programs include:

Film Productions Our main focus is to get more local stories into productions and on screen by commissioning work an ensuring budgets that pay all the cast & crew a living wage. Our first Short film Miami Magic is set to go into production in December 2023.

Filmcraft Series: Tales of Working Artists A series of conversations with Miami's leading filmmakers about their craft and careers. Speakers include Academy Award Winner Phil Lord, viral sensation and actor Ruben Rabasa, director of film and theater Victoria Collado, Production Designer Danny Davila and documentarians Robert Requejo Ramos and Pedro Gomez. Presented in partnership woth the Coral Gables Art Cinema and with the support of the Tristar Adult Education Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation. 

Development Series In Partnership with MDC's Miami Film Festival - A series of one-on-one mentorships where filmmakers take 5 meetings with industry leaders to workshop films they are currently developing for productions. Mentors offer artistic and practical advice that will help filmmakers make the best films possible and better pitch them to industry gatekeepers.

Filmmaker Nights  Monthly gatherings of Cast & Crew  to discuss films in development, current productions and discover new creative collaborators to work with.

Made in Miami Screenings  a chance for our community to see the amazing work being created locally. Both in theaters and online through our YouTube Channel

Test Screenings  Where filmmakers can screen their works in progress to audiences to get valuable feedback before locking the final version of their films.

DCP Grants  In partnership with the Coral Gables Art Cinema we offer free professional grade screening files for filmmakers, known as DCPs, for screenings in professional theaters and Film Festivals around the world.
