Island Media

A nonprofit organization

Island Media was established in 2018 by longtime local residents to inform and engage residents of the island community on a variety of important topics. Island Media believes that local, nonprofit news organizations are vital to fostering strong communities and a strong democracy. They are essential in providing people with the information they need to make important decisions and connect with each other. Island Media officially launched Key News in February 2019.

We desire to be a trusted source of local information and advertising content that is useful and valuable to the readers we serve. We have two different places you can access local information including The Tropical Rag and Key News. The Tropical Rag is a weekly newsletter about the Key. It goes out on Thursday mornings. The newsletter collects articles from various sources and summarizes them, all written in way that doesn't take itself too seriously. It also has a calendar and some other tidbits to keep you up to date on what's happening. Key News seeks to offer the island community a regular look into the Island's many offerings, community matters, and when appropriate, view points from leaders, experts, and residents on issues that affect our community.

We are a proud member of The Associated Press news cooperative so as to broaden our reporting resources, and we invite our readers to send contributions and photographs as well as thoughtful opinion pieces.

Mission

The mission of Island Media is to continuously provide an objective and honest voice for the people of this community. While our focus is on Key Biscayne, we're keenly aware of strong interest domestically and internationally, because of the sustained interest of former Key Biscayners living elsewhere, and because of our island's geography, beauty and history.
