The Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida Inc. has been at the forefront in providing educational sessions on the COVID-19 pandemic since its initiation in the United States in March 2020 and ongoing. HANA continues building support for its mission through education via radio and television broadcast in English and Creole twice weekly covering the importance of being vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, the importance of maintaining social distancing to protect oneself and others, the importance of wearing and proper usage of the face masks, avoid crowds and disinfect frequently touched objects ( doorknob) and surfaces. HANA also educate relevant health issues that plague the population.
During this COVID-19 pandemic period HANA continues its education addressing the psychosocial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on chronic diseases related to losses of loved ones and coping strategies for survivors and their families.
Educational session on the mental health aspects of the frontline workers, impact of the virus on minority groups are also addressed. HANA is also conducting biweekly webinar on COVID -19 prevention with the Haitian American Coalition of South Florida for COVID -19. HANA also collaborated with other organizations to provide cultural sensitive and linguistic information to specific groups.
