Keeping our mission and organization visible has been possible through Miami Book Fair, Little Haiti Book Festival, Perez Art Museum Miami, FIU Frost Museum, Fountainhead Studios in online events and classes. Much of that exposure came through Zoom and the Miami Book Fairs's Online platform which also lifted the artists/writers that work with Extra Virgin Press. Resident artists from Fountainhead Residency have added Extra Virgin Press to their local visits. Artist visits are always mutually enlightening.
Our presence in the larger community manifested through posters printed and distributed in Miami at various functions (FIU Frost/ 2021 Juneteenth), Black History (local schools), Kids JAMM @ PAMM (upcoming October event), Fountainhead's Artist's Open Event (Mothers' Day posters). Florida Atlantic University's Ritter Gallery featured Extra Virgin Press as the Miami component of their first exhibition in 2021, EXPANDING PRINTMAKING: South Florida Artist-Run Presses.
Extra Virgin Press has also been a regular attendee/student/community contributor at a broad spectrum of book arts, printing, letterpress Zooms across the United States. The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin has broadcast weekly Zooms with printers around the world every Friday since quarantine began in the United States. They invite the most prestigious book artists and printers to give talks on their specialty in the field. I have made contact with many of these printers and will be attending online classes and lectures for the second time this fall.
Artists and writers are beginning to come back to the press with projects. I am reaching out into schools for more interns and volunteers.
