Doral Contemporary Art Museum

OUR HISTORY

DORCAM, the Doral Contemporary Art Museum, was founded in 2017 by a group of collectors, museologists, community leaders, artists, scholars, and entrepreneurs who believed in the need for a contemporary art museum in the growing cultural landscape of Doral. Led by then Mayor, J.C. Bermudez, the City of Doral Council unanimously approved the concept, marking a significant milestone.

Since its inception, DORCAM has been committed to fostering debate, critical thinking, and local-international dialogue through diverse programming for all ages. The museum envisions Doral as a destination for contemporary art, nurturing creativity and innovation.

In its first six years, DORCAM achieved notable accomplishments, including six exhibitions on contemporary art and design, along with ten community outreach programs, attracting approximately 5,000 visitors. Strong institutional alliances were forged with the City of Doral, Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs, Chase Bank, and the Doral Business Forum, among others. The addition of new board members and a specialized team further strengthened the organization.

During 2019-2020, DORCAM presented eight exhibitions, conducted thirty community outreach programs, and relocated to new executive offices. The museum established partnerships with local and international cultural organizations, expanding its reach to Spain, Chile, Brazil, and Germany. After a leadership change and ongoing transition period, the board recognized the importance of strategic planning for long-term sustainability.

In response to the pandemic, DORCAM expanded its programming, both virtually and in person. It organized ten exhibitions, twenty-five community outreach programs, and welcomed ten thousand visitors during 2020-2021. The museum's commitment to recruiting visionary artists, curators, and thinkers aligned with the spirit of Doral.

Throughout its history, DORCAM has emerged as a cultural beacon, engaging the community through contemporary art. With its strong alliances, dedicated team, and strategic growth plans, the museum continues to contribute to the artistic landscape of Doral, attracting visitors and fostering a vibrant artistic environment.

DORCAM aspires to offer year-round programming with a unique, cross-disciplinary approach, contributing to the local community through ever-changing exhibitions that strengthen social unity and encourage diversity and understanding. The museum fosters open dialogue, the free exchange of ideas, and impactful education programs. DORCAM excels in leveraging its growing local, regional, and international network and well-established partnerships to curate accessible and inclusive programming of the highest artistic caliber, despite limited resources. By keeping every program free for audiences, DORCAM ensures widespread access to cultural experiences.

DORCAM's current annual programs include participating in the annual Miami New Media Festival, hosting Miami Art Week Celebrations, and the Women of Vision Event during International Women's Month. Additionally, DORCAM celebrates Earth Month and showcases art in fashion design. The museum incorporates immersive theater experiences within its space and brings monumental sculptures to parks within the City of Doral, creating an outdoor museum. DORCAM also extends its reach beyond Miami-Dade County through partnerships with galleries worldwide.
