Since inception as the South Florida Annenberg Challenge, and continuing as the Council for Educational Change we have contributed over $9 million to support educational programs in Miami-Dade. We have a long history of developing business/education partnerships in Miami-Dade (M/D). These partnerships engage business leaders to support school leaders in a mentorship capacity at the school site. The Council's premiere programs are the Partnership to Advance School Success (PASS) and Executive PASS. There are an estimated 85 ongoing partnership programs in M/D.
In response to the current jobs/skills mismatch, the Council developed, piloted, and has delivered the Career Awareness Leadership Forum in M/D. Employers have job openings they cannot fill. Students graduate without an awareness of the career opportunities and job skills needed for lucrative, future employment. Support from the business community will allow us to continue engaging the business community to support schools in M/D.
Mission
The Council for Educational Change is the successor 501(c)(3) organization to the $100 million dollar South Florida Annenberg Challenge. The Annenberg Challenge was a nationwide initiative to discover what drives student academic achievement. Independent evaluation of over 256 Florida programs funded by the Challenge identified three key elements. These elements, that are Catalysts for Change, are at the core of the Council's mission. Our mission is to:
• develop business and education partnerships; engaging business executives to improve performance in public schools
• prepare and empower school leaders - deliver leadership programs and tools to enhance leadership at the school level, serving as a catalyst for change and a connector of resources; and
• use lessons learned through research to address critical issues in education - these include STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math), student mobility, teacher retention and mentoring, and College and Career Readiness
