Centro Campesino

A nonprofit organization

Centro Campesino was formed in 1972 as the Centro Campesino Farmworker Center in response to the deplorable living conditions of farmworkers and other low-income families in South Florida. Today, Centro Campesino serves a demographic similar to Miami Dade County with housing development, homeownership solutions, property management, education/workforce development, and community revitalization in South Florida.

Youth Development: Youth Pride Community Learning Center with over 160 children daily with academic support, infused with Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and social development activities in an afterschool and summer camp format.

Homeownership Solutions: HUD-certified Housing Center where certified housing counselors help families overcome barriers that prevent them from becoming mortgage ready and eligible for down payment assistance programs. In the last five years, helped nearly 400 families close on a home loan.

My Home Construction!: In the last five years, weatherized nearly 1,000 homes in 13 Florida Counties. Since our inception, built and sold over 500 homes in the affordable market for working families.

Affordable Rental Housing: Built and manage 132 affordable rental units for Seniors and families in Homestead and Florida City.

Hurricane Recovery: Since Hurricane Andrew (which devastated South Florida in 1992), Centro Campesino has repaired and/or replaced over 220 damaged homes.

Mission

Centro Campesino empowers families and strengthens communities by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, and economic and educational opportunities. We envision a thriving community that leverages diversity and collaboration to create a pathway to equity, education, and economic opportunity for everyone.
