The Carrie Meek Foundation Inc

A nonprofit organization

Established in 2001 the Foundation sustains former U.S. Congresswoman Carrie Meek's work through grant-making, civic engagement, and community development. The Foundation is the legacy in action of one of the most visionary public servants in U.S. history. Throughout her educational career and her distinguished political career, Carrie P. Meek has staunchly advocated equity and opportunity for poor and disenfranchised people and has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life and create opportunities for all, especially the young, minorities, and the disadvantaged. Most recently, the Foundation worked with Amazon on recruitment and hiring outreach to launch its new 850,000 square foot Fulfillment Center at the Miami-Opa-Locka Airport on 90 acres of leased County land. This effort started in January 2018 with community outreach for a Job Readiness Training Program for local residents and culminated with the facility launch in the fall of 2018 and the hiring of 1500+ full-time employees.
