FORTY YEARS OF DANCE
Momentum Dance Company, one of the oldest and most established contemporary dance companies in the Southeastern U.S., is currently celebrating its Fortieth Season. Founded in 1982 by Artistic Director Delma Iles, Momentum has operated continuously since, reaching thousands of individuals through: the Miami Dance Festival, concert seasons; free performances for children; residencies at public schools as well as at Artz-n-the Hood in Liberty City; appearances at community events and festivals; special projects, and touring.
Momentum consists of a multiethnic group of dancers. The repertory is extremely varied and features historic modern dance works by pioneers such as Jose Limon, Doris Humphrey and Anna Sokolow, and works by award-winning Artistic Director Delma Iles. Momentum was presented on the Florida Department of State's Touring Program from 1988 until the program's demise in 2014, the first modern company appointed to the program. Momentum represented the U.S.A. at the Jose Limon Festival International in Culican, Mexico in 1995. In 2007 & 2008, Momentum performed in the Oaxaca International Dance Festival in Mexico. The company conducted six years of International Cultural Exchange with the National Dance Company of the Bahamas and two years with Ballet Contemporaneo de Oaxaca. Momentum has also performed at the National Dance Week New York Festival appearing at Cooper Union and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
In spite of current challenges for all performing arts groups, Momentum perseveres in serving the South Florida community.

MOMENTUM DANCE COMPANY is a professional contemporary dance company. The company exists for the purpose of creating, performing, and producing contemporary dance works, particularly those by Florida artists, according to the unique artistic vision of Founder/ Artistic Director Delma Iles emphasizing the creation of new works but stemming from a classical and historic viewpoint.
In addition, the company's goals are to develop and educate the audience for dance in South Florida, with emphasis on non-traditional and modern dance forms; and to educate and train students from all backgrounds for the purposes of professional careers as well as personal development and appreciation and enjoyment of dance.
