Topping off Opportunity

Everglades Preparatory Academy (EPA) is a tuition-free public charter school serving a diverse population of students and families in South Miami-Dade. Many of our students come from underserved communities and benefit from the safe, supportive environment EPA provides each day. We are committed to educating the whole child by fostering academic excellence, character development, physical wellness, and community engagement.

Today, we are raising funds for a transformation project: a permanent covered structure over our basketball court.

Our outdoor court is one of the most heavily used spaces on campus. It serves as a hub for physical education classes, recess, athletic practices, school celebrations, and community events. Unfortunately, South Florida's extreme heat, intense UV exposure, frequent thunderstorms, and unpredictable weather often make the court inaccessible or unsafe for students.

A covered court will provide year-round protection from the elements, creating a safer environment where students can remain active and engaged regardless of weather conditions. This investment will help reduce heat-related health risks, increase opportunities for daily physical activity, support student well-being, and promote healthier lifestyles for all students.

The impact extends beyond physical education. A covered court will allow EPA to expand athletic programming, host competitions and events, and provide students with greater opportunities to develop teamwork, leadership, discipline, and confidence through sports and recreation.

This project will also benefit the broader community. The covered facility will serve as a versatile gathering space for family events, youth programs, wellness activities, community partnerships, and emergency resources when needed. It will become a year-round asset that brings people together and strengthens community connections.
