The Mission Continues

Veterans possess the drive and desire to serve others, but without access to the tools needed, their potential to make meaningful impact at the local level remains untapped. On the other end of the spectrum, growing numbers of communities in this country are under-resourced and being left behind.

At The Mission Continues, we're on a mission to connect veterans with under-resourced communities. Our programs in 50+ cities across the country deploy veteran volunteers alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, increase access to parks and green spaces, foster neighborhood identity, and more. Our vision is for all veterans with a desire to continue their service to be part of a movement to transform communities.

In Miami specifically, we activate hundreds of veteran, community and youth volunteers each year to provide environmental improvements and increased access to local parks. Recent projects have involved maintenance in the Everglades, Biscayne and Dry Tortugas National Parks in partnership with the U.S. National Park Service and NPCA. Highlights include planting 3,000 sea oats and restoring two natural trails leading to a fossilized coral reef at Crandon Park and adding over 1,000 native trees and plants back into Virginia Key.

According to a recent survey of participants, 88% of veterans believe they have the ability to make a difference in their communities and 76% have a stronger sense of fulfillment. In the last 12 years, our veteran-led community service movement has generated more than $30 million in community impact nationwide. From 2019-2021, we will invest in and empower 1,000 veteran leaders through our four national programs.
