EmpowHERto was founded in 2018 in Toronto, Canada, as a youth nonprofit working to shift what's possible for undersupported Black and Brown young women. We moved into the US, planting our flag in Fort Lauderdale and focusing our work on Black and Latina girls and young women, building a community where they see a future built for them, not around them. Our programming is built around what is actually cool and relevant to girls right now, their social world, their culture, their interests, so it meets them where they already are instead of asking them to come to us. At the same time, we stay grounded in what is being taught at school and, just as important, what is not being taught, so we can ensure the success of our girls. Through programs in STEM, wellness, and career readiness, we give girls the tools to break systems, not just barriers.

Along the way, we saw Miami girls showing up in our virtual workshops and felt the demand firsthand, so we are now working in Miami to meet them where they are. Every workshop, every mentor, every dollar given moves a girl closer to the life she was made for.
