At The SFCPA we believe Drumming Is Universal. Rhythm is a part of everyone's life, fueling our passion to spark joy through drumming. We serve our community by offering educational programming, free community events, live concerts and workshops.

We work with our network of educators to identify children that would benefit by participating in our programs. We also promote the uniquely inclusive characteristics of learning music through drums and percussion to organizations that have contact with children with special needs.

Community Events

At the core of our community events is our weekly Free Friday Drum Jam which gives families the chance to experience playing music together and is open to all ages and abilities. The Community Jam Session gives young musicians a chance to learn and play along with professional artists. In addition to these events, we provide drum circle activities throughout South Florida in Libraries, Parks, Schools, Festivals and more.

Our Programs

Our educational programming consists of our tuition-free RhythmFun! Group Program which runs during the school year, serving students ages 18 months to 18 years old and private lessons for all ages. During summers, we have general and specialized camps and early childhood classes. We provide in-school interactive drumming presentations as well as host field trips. We partner with other cultural organizations to provide drumming activities on family days and special events.

Live Concerts & Workshops

October 2021 - May 2022, we had the incredible opportunity to bring a concert series to our community made possible with the support of the Knight Foundation and Miami-Dade department of Cultural Affairs. The Sunset Series consisted of 16 concerts and 9 workshops by artists from all over the world. This experience was free for our students and their families, giving them access to high quality arts programming and the opportunity to engage and learn from the visiting artists. We've provided hundreds of arts & culture experiences for the community since we began in 2010, The Sunset Series was the largest series of we've done to date, we are extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish and are committed to doing it again.

What You Are Funding

At the heart of founding the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts, was deciding its location to be West Kendall, a geographic area lacking in free and low cost arts programs serving children beyond the school day.

We are increasing our capacity to serve more children and families in South Florida! Just this Fall, we started a Samba Drum program at Jack D. Gordon Elementary and are finalizing the details to do the program at a second school. Our RhythmFun! program & number of private students has grown exponentially in the last couple of years, the Free Friday Drum Jam has been consistently reaching max capacity numbers and are being asked to perform and provide drumming activities weekly.

We need your help to support the demand of our programming. 100% of proceeds will go towards providing instruments/materials for school & after school programs, creating new opportunities for children to study, perform and enjoy music through percussion and a 2024 - 2025 Performance Series at the SFCPA.

Giving Activity

Mission

The SFCPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating new and enhancing existing opportunities to study, perform, and enjoy music through percussion. Along with educational programs from classical to world percussion, we help make music accessible to our community through school presentations, workshops, and performances. We also meet the challenge of studying percussion: access to literature, instruments, and rehearsal space in our 2300 sq.ft. facility.
