Arts education is indispensable in developing the essential 21st-century skills of collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking. Research proves that students who have increased arts education experiences see improvements in writing achievement, emotional and cognitive empathy, school engagement and higher education aspirations, while having fewer disciplinary infractions.

Art By Somi provides financial and volunteer support to the teacher and students of this public school Visual Arts Magnet to fund in-classroom needs and make possible “beyond the classroom” experiences and opportunities. We work with the parents, students, administration, and school district to promote and raise awareness about the program to help recruit and nurture young talent from across the county – some of whom will go on to be professional artists; all of whom will be better thinkers, stronger collaborators, and more self-confident in their ability to express themselves.

Mission

Art By Somi Magnet Booster Club is a . 501c3 non-profit organization that exists to develop, fund, and promote the growth of the Visual Arts Magnet Program at South Miami Middle Community School. The club helps to further the art interests and experiences of all Magnet visual art students. It is comprised of parents who work together to assist the Visual Art Director with fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, organizing special events, meeting needs and providing opportunities for all Magnet art students.
