$50,000 Goal

Founded in 2018, South Dade Women Veterans Alliance (SDWVA) is a veteran-led nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women veterans and strengthening their families throughout South Miami-Dade County. Since our inception, we have served more than 1,000 women veterans, helping them overcome barriers, build resilience, strengthen their families, and create new opportunities for success.

Women veterans often face unique challenges after military service, including limited access to resources, transportation barriers, caregiving responsibilities, housing instability, financial hardship, and the invisible effects of military trauma. Too often, their service goes unrecognized, their stories remain untold, and their needs are overlooked.

At SDWVA, we believe women veterans deserve more than recognition—they deserve opportunity.

Recognizing that many veterans could not easily access services through a traditional office model, SDWVA transformed into a community-based organization that delivers programs where women veterans live, work, worship, and gather. Through trusted partnerships with public agencies, healthcare providers, educational institutions, faith communities, veteran-serving organizations, and local governments, we remove barriers and bring resources directly into the communities we serve.

Today, SDWVA also works alongside the leadership of Homestead and Florida City to ensure women veterans remain part of the conversation as these communities continue to grow and invest in their future.

Our work is guided by The Power Within: Women Veterans Leadership, Legacy & Opportunity Initiative, a comprehensive investment in leadership, healing, economic mobility, and historical preservation.

Through this initiative, SDWVA is transforming lives through four signature programs:

Project Trauma Growth Initiative (PTGI) helps women veterans heal, grow, and lead through trauma-informed wellness programming, peer support, leadership development, and personal resilience.

Project Runway Initiative equips women veterans with workforce readiness, entrepreneurship support, financial empowerment, professional development, and leadership opportunities that strengthen long-term economic stability.

The Power Within Legacy Initiative preserves the history of women veterans throughout South Miami-Dade County by collecting oral histories, publishing The Power Within: Women Veterans of Miami-Dade County, honoring military service, engaging families through our Never Will Forget remembrance stories, and developing a permanent Digital Legacy Archive to educate and inspire future generations.

Food for Thought addresses year-round food insecurity through emergency food assistance, nutrition support, community partnerships, seasonal outreach, and essential household resources for veterans and their families.

Beyond these signature initiatives, SDWVA provides VA benefits navigation, resource referrals, leadership development, volunteer engagement, family support services, wellness programming, community education, and collaborative partnerships that connect women veterans to the services and opportunities they need to thrive.

Everything we do reflects our promise to help women veterans Heal, Grow, and Build Resilient Lives.

Our commitment is captured in the words that have guided our organization since its founding:

Making the Invisible, Visible.

We believe that when women veterans are empowered, families become stronger, neighborhoods become healthier, communities become more resilient, and future generations gain new examples of leadership, courage, and service.

Every donation helps preserve history, expand opportunity, strengthen families, and ensure that the women who have served our nation are never forgotten. Together, we are creating a lasting legacy of leadership, resilience, and hope for generations to come.
