Music Mentor Network

There are many wonderful community organizations that provide supplemental coaching to student musicians in Miami but many require the students to travel to a central location to receive services. Music Mentor Network strives to flip that model and bring the mentors to the students in their own environment, eliminating obstacles that may prevent student musicians from reaching their true potential.

We also strive to provide mentoring support for school music ensemble teachers and guidance for parent and community organizations that support school music programs. Students enrolled in school music programs that have adequate resources for activities such as specialized instrumental coaches and live accompanists are more equipped to participate in audition-based opportunities. By strengthening support at the school-based level, Music Mentor Network can assist in helping school music programs build a sustainable tradition of excellence for their students.

We have a strong desire to unite the school music programs in Miami so that resources can be shared and networks can be strengthened. Our signature program is the annual Beginning Band Bootcamp where students in their first days of learning a new instrument receive specialized instruction from professional musician educators. We provide funding for host sites to hire instrumental specialists as well as funding for nearby schools to transport their students to the host site. In this way, we can maximize our impact by creating cooperative learning environments. A goal for the future is to create community events where student musicians can attend masterclass workshops and performances featuring nationally renowned artists in order to further inspire them.
